I’ve been really busy over the past few days, preparing for a few events I’m coordinating for my Alumni Chapter at Arizona State University. Last night we had the first of two receptions–the second taking place in just a few hours. I’m definitely tired right not, but in a really good way.
In high school homecoming basically meant class competitions, dress-up days, a football game, and a fun dance. I loved being a part of that as a student. From a traditional perspective, though “Homecoming” should be about the alumni. I’ll be honest and say that really wasn’t my focus when I was a high school student, and it was only a partial focus for me as a college student. I was super busy like many (for most of you right now, or just in the past week or two), preparing the different events and competitions. I had a blast back then.
I’m having more fun now.
It’s true that I rarely get to wear pajamas to school anymore, or challenge classmates in a crazy obstacle course designed around the quad, but last night was a great experience. I had the chance to just sit back and talk with several of my favorite people from college who “came home” for the weekend. A few I hadn’t seen in months, but others I hadn’t seen in years. We chatted about the triumphs and challenges over the past few years, laughed over college memories, and all felt a bit surprised how we could unpause our relationship from the last time we saw each other and pick it up right where we left off. There is something about reconnecting with good friends who shared in very special time in your life.
It’s great when they come home.
I’m a big fan of this time of year. I’m a big fan of this weekend. I look forward to more conversations I get to share with friends. I hope you all get to celebrate with good friends sometime soon.
Off to continue a great weekend in Arizona!
