So today’s entry has nothing to do with technology, but rather just a really great way to enhance a club leadership day at your school.
I had the great opportunity to present at Eisenhower High School in Shelby Township, Michigan earlier today. The school hosted a great event combining various leaders from choir, drama, athletics, clubs, student council, etc for the day. I did a few team-building activities with them as well as an assembly for the whole school. They also had “color” time to discuss a few more specific topics.
The official shirts for the day are posted above. Each participant received a unique color with a lei in their color upon entry. You can see that each of the shirts has a bold BE, followed by a positive message. BE ADVENTUROUS. BE BRAVE. BE BOLD. BE STRONG. BE FEARLESS. Posters also hung around the auditorium where I spoke.
It’s perhaps one of the coolest ways I’ve seen a large group divided into smaller groups. The shirts reinforced attributes the school wanted each student to demonstrate.
While the students also did several activities where colors were mixed, they still had a color group lunch with simple table cloths and shirts making the room feel much more spirited.
Eisenhower did a similar t-shirt color campaign when they hosted the Michigan Association of Student Councils Convention a few years ago. The shirts provided an easy AND positive way of doing activities, mixing people up, and getting people united over something other than a specific club or grade level.
A big thank you to the students and staff at Eisenhower.
