No Small Change (except when there is)

no small changeSo if you’ve happened to hear my rock climbing story, there is a decent chance you’ve seen my 8th grade yearbook and the photo of me playing volleyball. I always highlight the volleyball picture. I don’t do the same with the cover.

I happened to be a co-editor-in-chief back in the day and was part of the decision on our theme: No Small Change. We picked the theme because our school had undergone several big changes that summer–new teachers, new desks, even some new paint. In the eyes of a middle school student, these were big and we made change a big part of that theme.

I was in the middle of telling that story a few weeks ago, and it hit me–I’ve been in the middle a similar period in my life.

In the past two years I sold my house, moved to San Diego, moved my business, helped plan a wedding and a honeymoon, got married, redesigned my website (with definite help), and became more involved with my professional organization. I’ve been busy. I’ve been in a continual state of change–none of it small, and I often felt like I wanted to complete it before I posted the next blog or video.

So I’ve waited.

As I’ve tried to start a healthier lifestyle and take on new challenges…

….I’ve waited.

But life is a continual state of change and progress. Ideally, we’re never done.

Yes, there are bigger times of change, but all change–even those big ones–begin with a series of smaller actions.

So if you’ve stopped on those New Year’s Resolutions already because the change wasn’t big enough?

Start again.

If you’ve stumbled with a recent goal.

Start again.

Let’s get on the journey together.

The blog is back. I’ll be posting A LOT more.

I won’t be perfect, but I promise to be authentic.

Big change or small change, I’m going to be on that journey.

I hope you’ll join me on it.

  • Great blog and great reminder! Productivity is about completion. It feels great when we get to complete something and focus on it. I'm with you on the healthy focus, one day at a time, one choice at a time. All the little steps add up to big changes. Thanks for sharing your journey.
