So the Olympics are on. Each night we can tune in to tape-delayed broadcasts highlighting the successes of each athlete.
The other day a friend of mine asked me what my favorite event is for the summer games. I told him I actually like the “failures.” I knew it was a weird statement, but for me, it’s what I find so inspirational at the Olympics.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m blown away by the gold medal winners.
But I’m even more impressed by the gymnast the fails at an elements, has no chance at a medal, but gets up and finishes a routine. There is such strength in that. It says so much about us as people.
No where was this more evident than in the 1968 games. This is my favorite Olympic moment. I can watch this clip over and over again.
Yes, there were stories before then and there are stories since. Derek Redmond in 1992 is a close second.
