Remodeling

There was a little bit of noise at my hotel during the daytime this past Friday. I was still able to catch up on some sleep that I missed during my red eye flight out to Greenville, South Carolina. As I took the elevator down to head over to the site where I was going to speak, I caught a glance of the lobby from above.

It was difficult to see during check-in as large boards blocked the view, but now I had a birdseye view of the fountain and social center remodel.

Certain features of the guest rooms were also undergoing some refurbishing.

It wasn’t a bad hotel, an ugly hotel, or a terribly outdated hotel. Sure the tile in the bathroom wasn’t as modern as other designs that I’ve seen, and the shower head didn’t look like it just came out of a showroom, but overall, it was a nice property.

But the owners were still remodeling it.

I think they wanted it to be an incredible property.

I thought about this lobby, as I sat on my plane ride back to San Diego and read a good chunk of the Steve Jobs book by Walter Isaacson. It definitely highlights Jobs’ desire to continue to “remodel” his products until they were perfect. This continued even after products were released as Jobs and those with whom he worked, constantly looked for the next innovation.

It got me thinking…

What have you “remodeled” lately?

Is there something about your organization? something about your process or system? something about yourself? that could use some TLC.

Again, this hotel wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the best property it could be quite yet.

My website isn’t awful right now, but it could definitely be better and reformatted for those who connect to it via their mobile device.

But there is more than just websites.

I know I can do more to serve my customers. I know I can do more to reach out to more people.

It’s just time to pick up the hardhat and get to work.

What do you need to do?
