Do you have ICE on your cell phone?

So this wasn’t the blog I was intending to write today, but my day took a different twist.

On the way out for an afternoon errand, I saw a dog jumping next to a person lying down on the sidewalk. It struck me as being a little bit odd, so I took an extra glance as I drove by. I saw a older woman crying on the sidewalk. I stopped immediately, hopped out of my car, and asked if she was okay.

She had tripped and badly hurt her arm. Luckily, she was conscious and able to provide me the phone number of her daughter who I called. I ended up staying with her until the fire department arrived to provide further assistance. They assumed we were related, but I let them know I was just some guy who saw her injured on the street.

Which brings me to my question:

“Do you have ICE on your cell phone?”

This woman was hurt, but she still was able to provide phone numbers and names. If the situation had been different, I wouldn’t have been able to contact as easily.

ICE= “In Case of Emergency”

With today’s technology, it’s really easy to enter a few “ICE” entries on your cell phone. I even added a “AAAA In Case of Emergency” contact entry on my phone, so it appears first if you pull up the contact list on my cell phone.

I first learned about this a few years ago at a conference when a fellow attendee appeared to have a stroke on the spot. He was there with someone he knew, but that isn’t always the case.

Today’s tip is a simple one:

Add an ICE contact on your phone. It could save your life.
